AQ Measurement offers a selection of particle measuring systems, including portable (handheld), wall-mounted particle counters, benchtop particle counters, remote particle counters, and wearable particle counters. Each device is designed to measure airborne particles in various environments—outdoors, in homes, manufacturing facilities, offices, and hospital cleanrooms.
Particle counters measure the quantity of airborne particles ranging in size from 0.3 µm to 10 µm. They also report PM2.5 and PM10 particle counts. Some models additionally measure the mass concentration of particles in µg/L, which is especially useful for meeting OSHA standards where particle density is a concern.
These measurements are performed using an internal vacuum pump that draws air through a laser-based detection system. As particles pass through the laser beam, they are counted and classified by size. The vacuum pump operates at a fixed flow rate, typically 2.83 L/min. Mass concentration for each particle size range is then calculated based on particle count, sampling time, flow rate, and estimated particle mass.
A portable air particle counter, or handheld particle counter, is commonly used for measuring air quality in households and outdoor environments. In homes, it helps identify unsafe air quality conditions or verify improvements after installing air filtration systems. Outdoors, it’s often used to monitor air quality in areas affected by brush fires or near chemical and manufacturing plants to ensure the air remains safe.
